Boarding from Script (Winnie The Pooh)
As a story person, I was assigned to a section of the script. (See attached file)
This is all I had. There were no character turnarounds, background art, or any such set material. I’ve got some concept art, photo reference of Milne (the father), Christopher (the son), and drawings of Pooh.
This production is at a pretty early stage. In fact, my boards will probably inform the art department. (If my boards do well, that is.)
I had some time in class to talk with my fellow story people, and the "director." Based on my notes, I created storyboards from the script.
Remember, these are storyboards, not thumbnails. My drawings should still be gestural (not polished beautiful drawings) but convey all the important information: character designs, composition, backgrounds, lighting (when relevant)...
Since there's no character sheets or set design, the designs are adjusted to fit my hand well. Backgrounds shouldn't be so detail-filled that I’m spending a lot of time drawing all the props. (Which I shouldn't for any storyboards anyway)
For characters, it also shouldn't be a struggle to draw them each time.. That being said, I tried being distinct and consistent! It shouldn't be difficult to tell Milne and Christopher apart.
